The Resident Management Network - Guide Tenant Management Organisations

Early in 2009 the National Federation of Tenant Management Organisations (NFTMO) brought together some of the best examples of resident management nationally - with the aim of setting up a new information and advice network.  By the summer of 2009 funding and support  for the scheme had been approved by the Tenant Services Authority (TSA) – a part of the recently established Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) which replaced the Housing Corporation at the end of 2008.

Guide TMO’s are established organizations who are helping to promote the concept of tenant controlled housing amongst council and housing association tenants. They an offer guidance to tenant’s groups that are exploring this approach and are able to explain what TMO’s are all about – including the difficulties and challenges!!

Guide TMO’s are not commercial consultancies and they are committed to sharing their knowledge and experience with others on a ‘not for profit’ basis.

The Guide RMO network links in well with requests to Pembroke EMB from visitors, enquiring about formal training opportunities and consultancy services.  At present Pembroke EMB are working in conjunction with ZEBRA collective, another local Social Enterprise to develop an increased range of service provision with the aim of promoting empowerment and engagement generally.   Bookings for study visits continue on a regular basis with many repeat visitors! And please remember …..   you do not have to be involved in tenant management to benefit from our experience.

Many of our initiatives although linked to the main housing function are largely ‘stand alone’ – for example much of our work around involving young people could be developed and replicated in other community contexts and settings.

For more information about the national Guide TMO network you can either contact Pembroke St EMB direct or contact the NFTMO by e mailing guide[at]nftmo[dot]com

Study visits are still able to go ahead thanks to the Tenant Services Authority – a part of the Homes and Communities Agency – who continue to support the national network
