Community Development

As a resident led organisation, PEMB has higher than average levels of community engagement. Promoting mutual help and support is a cornerstone of our working practice.

Community Development stretches back to the 1980’s when the original residents group was formed. There was a strong belief that achieving long-term regeneration was as much about empowering local people as changing the physical environment.

We have delivered a range of projects and activities, often in partnership with other groups which have been available to all in Devonport. This has included community celebrations, health programmes, social groups and one to one support for vulnerable residents.

A key strand of this work has been working with children and young people including after school clubs, youth work, school holiday activity programmes and family day trips. Volunteers play a key role in helping to provide these activities.
